W27 Collective

At some point, every growing company accidentally builds a maze.

The product team is solving one problem. Operations is solving another. Engineering is buried in complexity. Leadership keeps asking why execution feels slower despite having more people.

That’s usually when the meetings multiply, the systems stop scaling cleanly, and everyone starts inventing workarounds just to keep things moving.

We help companies untangle the operational, product, and technology decisions creating friction underneath the business — so teams can move with clarity again instead of brute force.

Four ways we restore execution momentum

We help companies understand what is slowing execution, make better technology decisions, and turn strategy into measurable product and business outcomes.

Technology & Execution Assessment

When leadership needs clarity before making a major technology, product, or hiring decision.

  • Root-cause view of execution constraints
  • Engineering organization and architecture assessment
  • Product delivery and technical debt review
  • AI opportunity assessment and leverage points
  • Technology and operational risk review
  • Decision-ready 90-day roadmap and next-step recommendation

Fractional CTO Leadership

For companies that need ongoing senior technology leadership without the cost or commitment of a full-time CTO.

  • Executive technology leadership
  • Business, product, engineering, operations, and AI decisions
  • Product and engineering leadership
  • Roadmap prioritization and investment planning
  • Product and engineering operating cadence
  • Board, investor, hiring, and AI adoption support

Execution Recovery & Transformation

For companies that need to turn unclear priorities or stalled execution into a tangible product outcome. W27 owns the execution path from strategy through implementation and validation, so leadership can stay focused on the business.

  • Execution ownership from roadmap to shipped work
  • Tangible product or business outcome definition
  • Product, engineering, and operations alignment
  • Architecture and AI-enabled workflow improvements
  • Experimentation, validation, and learning loops

Technical Due Diligence

When leadership needs an independent assessment of technical risk, scalability, AI readiness, or execution maturity.

  • Product and execution maturity review
  • AI readiness and technical risk identification
  • Architecture and scalability review
  • Engineering organization assessment
  • Executive summary and investment recommendations

Real business outcomes, not transformation theater

W27 helps companies translate AI capability into real business outcomes. We focus on the constraints that matter: where AI can improve decision-making, delivery speed, product quality, operational visibility, or customer experience.

Most organizations do not need an AI transformation. They need to understand what is already working, preserve it, and apply change where it creates meaningful business impact.

AI has made building faster, but it has also made judgment, alignment, and prioritization more important. We help teams use AI to improve the quality of work, not just increase the volume of output.

Impact we have delivered across product, operations, technology, and AI

We focus on measurable execution outcomes that improve growth, delivery speed, and leadership visibility in complex operating environments.

A practical model from assessment to validated execution

We help companies understand what is slowing execution, choose the right path forward, bring the leadership or execution support needed, and validate the work with evidence.

  1. Assess

Identify what is slowing execution across technology, product, teams, operations, and AI.

  2. Decide

Turn the assessment into clear priorities, tradeoffs, and a recommended path forward.

  3. Lead

Provide senior technology leadership where the company needs executive judgment, operating cadence, and direction.

  4. Execute

Own or support the execution path from roadmap to shipped work.

  5. Validate

Use experiments, pilots, customer feedback, and measurable signals to confirm the work is creating the intended result.

A cross-functional partnership for execution, systems, and products.

Kal Walkden and Amy Wimmer work across technology, product, operations, design, and user experience to help companies make better decisions, restore execution momentum, and turn strategy into measurable outcomes.

Kal Walkden

CTO, Product & Engineering Executive, and Fractional Technology Leader

Kal Walkden is a CTO and product and engineering executive who helps companies make high-stakes technology decisions and restore execution when technology, teams, or operating models are limiting performance. His work spans both growth and stabilization environments, helping organizations scale more effectively, restore momentum, and operate with greater clarity and predictability.

Over the last 25+ years, Kal has led product and engineering organizations across startups, growth-stage companies, and enterprise environments including HelloFresh (Factor), Double Good, ForeverCar, IBM, Philips Electronics, and TransUnion.
